FAQ
Why should I design and make my own dining table instead of just buying one from a shop?
The “why?” will be different for everyone.
For some people, it is a chance to get an exceptional piece of furniture closer to their budget.
For others, the sentimentality of crafting by hand - the centrepiece of one’s home and family life resonates with them as it does with me.
For some people it is a chance to get the dining table they have always envisioned,
but could not find and didn’t know where to begin engaging a local maker.
For others it is a chance to explore an interest in furniture making - with the
bonus of making something exceptional.
And for most, I think it is a combination of the above.
How much does it cost?
That depends on the table you design and its size.
Driving factors for the cost are mainly table size - as materials will make up a large portion of the cost.
A price will display once you have settled on your base design. Takes only a few seconds to select the options.
Prices will adjust depending on the final options you select.
Is timber included in the price?
Yep.
You have a choice American White Oak or American Black Walnut.
You can also stain the American White Oak if you would like.
If you had something else in mind, feel free to get in touch to see what we can source.
What timber thickness will be used in the various parts of the table?
Table tops:
Finished to a thickness of 30mm.
Table Frame Components:
Finished to a max. thickness of 45mm
Bold Legs Frame:
Max. leg thickness of 135mm x 135mm (or 135mm dia).
Saddle Leg Frame:

Studio/Corners Table Legs:
Max. leg dimension of 140mm x 45 mm.
Slab Bases:
Finished to a max. thickness of 45mm.
What if I don’t finish my table in the scheduled time?
Josh and his team will do their best to keep you on track if you are falling behind. This may include doing a glue up or some prep work on days you are not scheduled in the workshop to ensure workshop days are not wasted on drying times.
How will I get my table home?
For Melbourne Metro locations, it should cost
between $250-450 including gst for us to transport your table from our workshop, and to your home.
Alternatively, you could call in a favour to your mate with a ute or van, and collect your table from the workshop.
If you don’t have a van or mate with a van, you can sign up to Goget and rent a van for a few hours.
It's what I do for all local deliveries and probably what I will be doing for yours.
So if you want to save a few hundred dollarydoos, this is a good way.
Can I share/split the workshop days with someone? As in, can my wife/husband/partner build some days? And I build others?
Yes. Just communicate it early enough for me to make arrangements for the additional workshop induction.
I wouldn’t advise you both being there participating on the same table on the same day purely because one person will be standing around getting bored while the other is on the tools.
What if I change my mind about the size or shape, or timber of the table after I book?
We will be ordering materials ahead of time so there is a limit to what can be changed and when.
So if you change your mind - we need to know asap. Preferably no later than 3 weeks prior to your masterclass commencing.
I work fulltime during the week. Do you run weekend classes?
As I operate a furniture design/making studio also, I continue to have projects to produce.
At this point we only run classes during weekdays.
If you have sick leave stashed up, perhaps chuck a few sickies/mental health days* to come do some cathartic woodworking?
Or if you are in the position to, you could use some holiday leave?
*This is not career advice. Don’t do that if you’ll get caught, demoted, and/or fired.
All I know is one of my former workplaces didn't require Doctor certificates if you chucked a sickie on Tues, Wed, or Thurs. How about you?
